What you can and cannot save
Tomitingo is designed as an educational and archival utility that respects digital privacy standards and platform guidelines. Before downloading, please keep these clear operational boundaries in mind:
Supported Public Stories
You can save public Instagram stories from open creator, business, and personal profiles that do not require an approved follow request.
Private Accounts Restricted
Stories posted by private accounts cannot be accessed. Tomitingo does not bypass passwords, scrape credentials, or override user privacy settings.
The 24-Hour Expiration Rule
Instagram automatically purges active stories after 24 hours. A story must be currently active on Instagram when you submit its link into our tool.
Close Friends Stories
Stories shared exclusively with a private "Close Friends" list are encrypted for designated recipients only and cannot be processed by public web fetchers.
Will the profile owner know you saved their story?
No. When you paste an active story link into Tomitingo, our server communicates directly with Instagram's public media distribution servers to retrieve the video stream or JPEG file. Because you do not log in with your personal Instagram account, your username is never submitted to Instagram and will not show up in the creator's story viewer tray.
How to copy and download a story link
Follow these straightforward steps on your mobile phone or desktop computer to archive public Instagram stories:
Locate the Active Story on Instagram
Open the Instagram app on Android/iPhone or visit Instagram in your computer browser. Open the public story you wish to archive.
Copy the Story Link
Tap the Share paper airplane icon or the three vertical dots (•••) in the top-right corner, then tap Copy Link.
Paste the Link into Tomitingo
Return to this page, click the Paste button next to our search field, or manually paste the URL into the input box.
Process and Save to Your Device
Click the blue Download button. Once our system generates the high-definition preview, click Download MP4 (for video) or Download JPG (for photos) to save it directly to your phone gallery or computer downloads folder.
Troubleshooting story downloads
If your link fails to process, here are the most common reasons and solutions:
Common Resolution Checkpoints
- Story has expired: If 24 hours have passed since the user uploaded the story, Instagram removes the media from their public CDN and it can no longer be retrieved.
- Account is private: Verify that the account profile is open to the public. If their profile displays "This Account is Private", the story cannot be viewed or downloaded.
- Submitted profile link instead of story link: Make sure the link contains
/stories/username/followed by a specific story ID number, rather than just the generic user profile link. - Highlight moved to private archive: If the creator removed the story early or deleted the post, the server responds with a 404 media unavailable notice.
